Excursions for everyone
Adventure around the Marienhöh
We are happy to present you a small selection for adventures around the hotel. You can get more excursion destinations on site at our reception.
The Wildenburg
The landmark of Wildenburg, visible from afar, is a 22 m high observation tower on the quartzite rock of the "Wildenburger Kopf" - only a few minutes by car from Marienhöh. On clear days, you have a wide view over the Idar plateau to the Erbeskopf, the highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Donnersberg in the Palatinate, the Rotenfels near Bad Kreuznach or the Schaumberg near Tholey in Saarland.
Three thousand years on three and a half kilometers
On the 3.5 km long history trail "Through two millennia" around Wildenburg Castle, you can vividly learn how a forest is naturally rejuvenated, which characteristics can be used to distinguish trees, where which wild animals can be found, or how charcoal was once produced in kilns. The route leads through more than three millennia of human history, which is omnipresent here. In addition, one learns everything worth knowing about the Celtic settlement up to modern times.
Animal forest dwellers very close
At the parking lot in front of the castle hill is the entrance to the game preserve. Here you can get very close to the animal inhabitants of the forest. Wild boar freshlings, mouflon or even lynxes can be observed.
Journey into the history of the earth
At the ticket office to the game reserve you can visit a small "geological-paleontological" exhibition in the next room. Fossils from different epochs of the earth's history let you marvel. Pictures, texts and 3D models explain very clearly the rock structure and the geological conditions of the unique region.
