From Monastery to Hideaway & Spa

The history of the monastery Marienhöh

With the last service in the chapel on June 7, 2004, the time of Marienhöh as a monastery came to an end, but not the history of Marienhöh itself.

Peace, nature, recreation - Already at the beginning of the last century, two wealthy ladies from Koblenz recognized the value of the idyllically situated property and had a children's home built there. In 1927, the city of Oberhausen acquired it.

After the war, the house was temporarily used for the care of the elderly by the Order of the Boromean Sisters of Trier. From 1951, the focus was once again on children's recreation. The Catholic Women's Order of the Sisters of Mary acquired the property and continued to develop it.

For 50 years, the village community of Langweiler lived in close symbiosis with the Marienhöh convent until it was abandoned by the Sisters of Mary in 2002.

At the end of 2004, the private real estate company BonnVisio acquired the area with all the buildings and with a new vision: to offer people seeking recreation in the beautiful nature with its pure air a very special hotel - the Marienhöh.

On May 1, 2009, the Marienhöh opened as a golf, hiking and family hotel.

As a hideaway & spa, it now offers a refuge for wellness, relaxation and enjoyment.
