Culture and nature in Hunsrück

The air is considered one of the purest in Germany. Just below the romantic quarry stone walls of the hotel lies the local community of Langweiler with just under 260 inhabitants.

Wild romantic valleys, quiet forests, castle ruins, originally beautiful and wild areas, crisscrossed by dreamlike paths and footbridges, lie around the Marienhöh. Colorful meadows, gentle slopes, high forest with lush trees and rugged rock attract visitors to the picturesque nature.

A special magic in this place, way of life and sense of time, take you immediately upon arrival. It is like diving into another world. City dwellers are as enchanted by this place as demanding hikers who seek personal hospitality, peace and comfort in the seclusion of the Hunsück National Park. Sports fans are thrilled: Just a few kilometers from the hotel, you can discover new greens on excellent golf courses. An outdoor tennis court is also part of the Marienhöh. For mountain biking, Nordic walking and hiking you start directly from the hotel.

Nationalpark Hunsrück

Hunsrück National Park

Serengeti, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Everglades, Galapagos - images of great destinations arise when we read these names. Images of overwhelming natural beauty that are awarded the title of national park all over the world. This is how the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation introduces the topic of national parks. The name National Park has become a brand. Nature is given an extraordinary value by the National Park designation.

With the National Park, Hunsrück is now playing in the Champions League of nature conservation. The Hunsrück National Park is only a few minutes away from Marienhöh. A low mountain range with almost endless forest and woodland areas characterize the Hunsrück and thus distinguish it from the surrounding best wine-growing areas of Germany - the Moselle, the Rhine, the Nahe and the Saar.

The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation counts the Hunsrück as a "hotspot region for biological diversity". There are only 30 such areas in the whole of Germany. For example, the most wild cats live here in Europe. But in addition to nature, the national park also offers a unique link to cultural and historical relics of the Celts and Romans.

The region is also a geo-paradise. Explore the magic of the earth's history in this unique part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. Experience the exciting course of life of our planet in the mirror of stones, minerals and fossils. Sparkling crystals, quartz, calcite, ore minerals or gemstone druses await you in quarries, geoparks, old mines, museums, historical and modern grinding mills. It is a 20-minute drive on the famous German Gemstone Road to the rock metropolis of Idar-Oberstein.
